Masters-In-Training: Contenders - Fundamentals of Winning Chess

Contenders is our mid-level program, designed for players with a basic knowledge of chess strategy and tactics.  We'll explore tested principles for attacking your opponent's position and for defending your own.  We'll apply the Dynamic Balance method to understand the key elements of your position.  We'll to use the Strategic Compass to find a logical, common-sense path forward through the constantly changing jungle of possible continuations.  Our primary study material will be student games as well as instructive master games from the colorful and fascinating history of chess.  Along the way, we'll meet outstanding masters who have shaped our understanding of the game.

Contenders meets from 4:30 - 5:30 on Monday afternoons.
