Masters-In-Training Masterminds: Winning Chess Strategy & Tactics

Masterminds is our program for serious, experienced players. The fundamental problem in any position is "What should I play now?"  We'll explore ways of finding logical, common-sense answers to that question.  We start with the advice of the great Argentinian grandmaster Miguel Najdorf: "First the idea, then the move!"  To find the right idea, we need to understand the position. We'll do that by applying the Dynamic Balance method and using the Strategic Compass to find an effective and manageable path through the ever-changing complexities of a chess position.  Our primary study material will be student games as well as instructive master games from the colorful and fascinating history of chess.  Along the way, we'll meet outstanding masters who have shaped our understanding of the game.

Masterminds meets from 4:30 - 6:00 on Friday afternoons.
